Who we Are

WHISKERS FOR GOOD it is a project dedicated to improving the lives of as many stray cats and dogs as possible by supporting animal shelters and animal protection associations in Portugal, promoting the development of their management capabilities and strengthening their fundraising strategies.

Born from the desire to contribute to a structural change in animal welfare, the organization works with a direct support approach, assisting entities in a transparent, effective, and committed way.

In Portugal, public support for the animal protection sector is still insufficient. The vast majority of organizations consist of small teams with limited resources and are highly dependent on volunteer work. These entities face constant challenges in ensuring medical care, food, sterilizations, and adequate infrastructure to house the animals they rescue.

WHISKERS FOR GOOD believes that all animals deserve to be treated with dignity - whether they have a home or have been abandoned. Our mission extends beyond shelters: it also includes stray animals still living on the streets, without access to basic care, food, or protection.

Our Founder - Ana Pinto

For the past six years, Ana dedicated herself as a volunteer with several animal rescue organizations, caring for stray cats and dogs in my community.

She provides food, monitors their health and well-being, and takes action to ensure they live with dignity — whether that means arranging spay/neuter procedures and returning them to their environment, rescuing the gentle ones for adoption, or offering a peaceful and respectful farewell when their suffering becomes too great.

She’s driven by growth, challenge, and the desire to apply her skills in a context that values empathy, transparency, and integrity. This passion led her to create WHISKERS FOR GOOD - a mission close to her heart. She simply cannot look away from the pain and challenges faced by stray and abandoned animals. They deserve compassion, care, and a chance at a better life.

Molly - Our Inspiration

WHISKERS FOR GOOD was born from the story of Molly, the sweetest cat who ever lived — and the reason behind our mission.

For nearly ten years, Molly survived on the streets. She endured harsh weather, the biting cold and scorching heat. She faced danger — hit by a car, chased by packs of dogs, and left to fend for herself through it all. Molly gave birth to many litters, but most of her babies did not survive.

She found some refuge on the doorstep of a kind man. He never let her go hungry, but he refused to give her shelter — because, he said, Molly was “mean” to his other cats. Perhaps Molly was only protecting herself, wary of those she didn’t trust.

One day, I began offering Molly food and gentle attention. For seven long months, I could only barely stroke her — just a timid touch here and there. But slowly, Molly started to trust me.

I took her to the vet to be spayed, but I had to return her to the streets. For many more months, she braved the rain, cold winds, and threats of the outside world. Others cared for her in small ways, but my heart ached knowing she was still vulnerable, exposed to the harsh realities of street life.

Then came COVID-19. The streets grew silent; people stopped walking by. Molly was left alone, without affection or protection. It was clear—her time on the streets had to end.

So, despite her resistance, I brought her home.

She meowed incessantly for days, longing for the only life she knew — the freedom and dangers of the street. But with patience, love, and respect, we stood firm.

Gradually, the loud meows softened into peaceful, warm naps — on cozy blankets, on her own food-filled tummy, and in my lap. Molly learned to trust. She rediscovered joy.

Even in her later years, Molly became playful like a kitten — running, tumbling, and sprawling on her belly when tired. She joined countless work meetings unnoticed, curled up in my lap, peacefully asleep.

Every night, Molly would curl up on my belly — even during the heat of summer — comforted and content.

She was a chatty companion, vocalizing her needs: when she wanted attention, pâté, fresh air on the terrace, or to signal bedtime for everyone at home.

Molly shared our lives for almost five years until she peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge. She was deeply loved, spoiled, and I believe that the love she found with us helped erase the pain and fear she’d known on the streets.

Molly will forever live in our hearts — and her story is the heartbeat of WHISKERS FOR GOOD. Our commitment to improve the lives of as many cats and dogs as possible is dedicated to her.

Because every “Molly” in this world deserves a life filled with care, safety, compassion, respect, and love.
